Catalyze — Autopilot & Device Provisioning
Challenge
Catalyze was onboarding frequent hires across distributed teams and lacked a repeatable, secure provisioning process. Imaging machines manually created inconsistent configurations, extended setup time, and generated avoidable support tickets. The team wanted a zero-touch model that reduced hands-on IT work while enforcing corporate security baselines.
Solution
We implemented Microsoft Autopilot together with Intune and Azure AD to enable automated enrollment and policy application. Key steps included:
- Profile design and baseline policies (encryption, firewall, local admin restrictions).
- Automated application bundles using Intune Win32 and MSIX where appropriate.
- Enrollment flow testing: pilot group validation and staged rollout with monitoring.
- Self-service provisioning documentation for IT and end users to streamline support.
- Integration with Windows Update for Business and feature-update rings for control over OS patching.
Results
- Provisioning time dropped from multiple days to under one hour for a pre-configured device.
- Support tickets related to imaging errors decreased by over 70% in the first quarter.
- Consistent policy application improved security posture (full-disk encryption and EDR on all endpoints).
- IT staff regained time previously spent on imaging and troubleshooting, enabling higher-value projects.
Tools & software used
- Microsoft Autopilot (zero-touch provisioning)
- Microsoft Intune (MDM)
- Azure Active Directory (Azure AD Join, Conditional Access)
